Happy that I finally watched this classic anti-capitalist film. There are aspects of this movie that seem cheesy, of course, and for someone who is coming at it from a left-wing perspective these parts can appear as turn-off. Pretty shocked that I liked the movie. Was expecting the opposite. The idea of a rugged, American-colonial style space world is what made this. The lack of character development felt a bit more real to me than anything else (major complaint about the film). It was a feature, not a flaw, given the dog-eat-dog context. What kind of personal development does one expect under lumpen-colonial conditions anyways? The demand for personal introspection in space is a false one, and I was glad to see it rejected here.
