The cruelty towards Dawn Weiner, the film’s unfortunately named protagonist, is unceasing: it pours upon her from classmates, teachers and family; seemingly even from the supposedly impartial & disinterested universe itself. The endless stream of abuse and neglect is the structure of the film: it just keeps coming and coming and coming.
