The Half of It 2020
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Cute and messy. There are bright spots, like the quiet-yet sweet scenes of Ellie sharing TV meals with her dad and the bumbling-yet-sweet camaraderie the two main characters build. Sorta. But the irregular pacing, questionable "romantic" advances and half-developed characters left me a little sad and a little more sure that Netflix won't provide the queer Asian American teen representation I desire.
(If you haven't watched Alice Wu's first film though, check it out! Saving Face is a funny intergenerational/lesbian romance that was ahead of its time.
