  Letter from an Unknown Woman 1948

  Interesting. I watched this film a year ago, and back then, I thought it was overly corny and cliché. It still is. Albeit that I now understand where it comes from, since I've read Stefan Zweig's novella last week on which this film is based on.

  As you would expect, Zweig's original version is vastly superior than this Ophüls adaptation. It's so much more powerful because it's subtle. This film is not.

  Beklijvend, sinister en vol met morele twijfel... Melville houdt je gewoon twee uur lang in een wurggreep. Heel sterk.

  Dat deze film in één shot is, is puur om ons af te leiden van het feit dat dit eigenlijk een slappe voorspelbare hersenloze Hollywoodterleurstelling is die drijft op actie en nul inhoud heeft. Makkelijke trucjes om je bang te maken en slecht acteerwerk krijg je er gratis bij!
