sensual, gritty, melancholic, violent, comedic at times
themes of love (romantic and familial), heartbreak, solitude, yearning, the use of violence to sustain one’s livelihood. most of the characters are sympathetic though their actions are questionable (except blondie, she got on my nerves… why does she screech every 5 seconds)
beautiful/iconic cinematography and soundtrack.
wong war kai‘s vibrant colors and unique camera angles are so visually appealing <3

loneliness and ennui are nothing new and the casual racism in the film was off-putting. also the romance gave me the ick
like why is a wrinkly old man kissing a 20 something girl fresh out of college? y’all knew each other for maybe a week and only bonded because you were the only americans around who both happened to feel lost in life and enjoy racist jokes. haha so funny, a bilingual person has an accent…bffr 🙄
