Confessions of a Shopaholic 2009
I made a Letterboxd just so I could review Confessions of a Shopaholic, an uncanny snapshot of the post financial crisis/early Gaga American cultural moment. The film follows the life of Manhattan transplant and journalist Rebecca Bloomwood, whose meteoric career rise is undermined by inescapable credit card debt. Came for Isla Fisher’s red hair and classical clown and mime training, stayed for the sharp commentary on American consumerism.
The film is best read through the lens of episodes 1 & 2…
