Helene’s takeaway was that Belloq ate a fly.
She also loved the stunt work, it reminded her of the stunt show at Disney Hollywood Studios. It was also a lot more violent than she expected, and given she said that only when people were shot all I could say was ‘oh you haven’t seen nothing yet’.

The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover 1989
I’m stunned, it’s stunning, it’s captivating. I love its visual language, the constant extreme wide shots, just landscape and space, almost like the narrative opposite of da Vinci’s The Last Supper. Mix that with some astounding performances and Helen Mirren’s amazing close up scene, the score and the growing tragic feel of it all. Cap it off with a superb final scene and honestly it’s a hell of a meal with the cherry on top. Just superb filmmaking.
