Nosferatu 2024
A masterclass in meshing basically every type of horror that doesn’t divulge in modern horror cliches, but rather builds an endless, oppressive dread and nihilism. The nearly monochromatic cinematography and chilling score were standouts along with the surprisingly raw performances from Depp, Dafoe, Hoult, and Skarsgård. They gave their all to twist and contort emotionally and physically as the story demanded of their characters.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning 2023
Fun continuation of the McQuarrie era with a lot of stylistic throwbacks to the first and third entries, for better or worse depending on preference (we don’t talk about M:I2). Continues to devolve into absurdist territory from the grounded sci-fi slasher that started this, but hey, we’re back to memorable characters, cinematography, action, and Xeno-gore from the snoozefest of A3. Sigourney dominates even more than her previous outing as well, despite becoming a dialogue vehicle for every bad Whedonism you can think of, and it’s just more fun of a watch. If it’s gonna be a parody, might as well act like it. Still sucks tho.
