Monumental animation. The fact that these scenes were all hand-painted and they pre-scored the voice actors speaks to the scrupulous work done by all the animators and media companies that Otomo carefully selected. It’s all done with such care and precision it’s no wonder how influential this film has been not only on anime but the entire sci-fi genre.

McDonagh wastes no time throwing us into the momentum of this story, and it's fantastic.
First, it's well why the hell ain't Colm talkin to Pádraic? Then, well why the hell doesn't he want to carry on their lifelong companionship? And it just gets more tense and Coen-like from there. I see it as a perfect tempo on a simple, character-based film.
I assume most audience members would initially sympathize with Pádraic, as I did, but there is a tug-of-war…
