Southpaw 2015
So the options on my hotel tv are limited, and I’m not really sure what Rita Ora is doing here, but I’m gonna give this 2.5 stars bc it’s not at all my style of movie or where my interests lie but the acting is solid. I think the plot is kinda forced but like whatever it’s gritty and dramatic and doused in male hustle culture.

Moulin Rouge! 2001
Moulin Rouge, aka Cirque de Camp: I don’t do mushy and I don’t do musicals, but I can admit it was still lovely and def worth the watch- so cheeky and unserious!! The only problem I had wasn’t even with the film but my dad (bless him) talked over the entire movie and actually ruined it so I’m gonna have to rewatch and re-rate again, sans unsolicited narrator :/

Cremaster 2 1999
Never had a love hate relationship this strong in my life. There were stills I wanted to burn into my brain and stills I need to purge from my soul. Lots to unpack but little to say. Flabbergasted and gobstopped. I feel heartbroken having death metal, liminal spaces, and western Americana betray me so deeply. Would’ve personally preferred more gaudy westernwear and less sadism but maybe I’m just lame idk. First time in my life where I’ve felt reinvigorated, traumatized, and speechless all in one fail swoop. Fascinated and fearful.

Fallen Angels 1995
Visuals as you can imagine are splendidly sordid!!! Character development is lacking IMO but I think it’s down to 1) potentially the translations and 2) there’s a very ‘devil take me’ attitude, which inherently doesn’t intend to grow. I would say character building and plot are a smidge stagnant for me BUT in a way that makes sense and adds to the atmosphere.
It’s beautiful, sordid, and purposely stuck. I dig it!!
