Companion 2025
Jack Quaid, I’ll be your companion any day! 🤖
Companion is my first outstanding new release of 2025. Jack Quaid (who is set for a bright year ahead with the upcoming Novocaine) plays Josh, a relatable everyman in love with his dear girlfriend, Iris (Sophie Thatcher, in a killer follow-up to last fall’s Heretic). Iris is so perfectly made for Josh, it all seems a bit…programmed.
The supporting cast (Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend) all nail their roles perfectly, keeping you thoroughly engaged in this boys meets (?) girl tale gone glitchy.

The Brutalist 2024
If the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has any sense, we have our Best Picture winner.
A sprawling, three and a half hour exploration of ambition, acculturation, and dignity, Brady Corbet helms a feast of a film strung together by a remarkable ensemble (Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, and Joe Alwyn) that fires on all cylinders. Daniel Blumberg’s memorable overture will be ringing in your head long after the film concludes.
See this film on the largest format possible.

Presence 2024
A completely original theatergoing experience, director (and cinematographer) Steven Soderbergh employs a first person POV to tell the story of a fractured family haunted by the past in more ways than one.
Think less jumpscare horror and more tension-building suspense.
