The killing of a sacred deer was a film which presents its audience with disturbingly interesting moral qualms and balanced aspects of horror and human drama quite well. The dialogue is in a style unique to this director and if you’ve seen the lobster it’s quite similar in that regard. The film kept me interested in what was next.
Visually, saltburn was unique as a period piece which draws back to 2006 which is quite recent history. The film held my attention the entire way through and the main character was very interesting. It had that particular A24 feel both aesthetically and in story writing as all of the characters have simple motives but oftentimes complex ways of going about them. Unfortunately the film is also very derivative of talented Mr. Ripley which hasn’t been acknowledged properly by the director.
