A gripping and intensely gripping film based on the true story of ex ambassador Rubens Paiva’s arrest and murder in the dictatorship in the 70s. At the start we watch idyllic scenes of family life, recorded with great vitality by activist daughter in home movie camera. we see this footage again over the decades.
After the arrest and torture of Eugene his wife we see how she battles with tremendous courage to keep her children safe and get answers to the lies told by the authorities about his disappearance. The performances, specially by Fernanda Torres as Eugene Paiva are outstanding.

A very beautiful and extremely moving film set in a poor hamlet in the northern mountains of Italy and centred on one local family who struggle to make ends meet with all their children. The father is the local schoolteacher and the endlessly pregnant much younger wife works the farm with the children. The house is so cramped that one of the teenage girls can only find privacy to guiltily touch herself by hiding behind the wardrobe door. Two deserters come to the village and hide out, changing the family’s life forever, when one of them falls in love with the eldest daughter.
