An instant Christmas classic and a must see family movie, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is easily a top ten of the year, if not the top spot. I absolutely loved it!
It was good until it wasn’t. I was not prepared for Joker to be a musical. At first it fit the film quite well, but it just kept introducing song after song until it was unbearable. I hypothesize there are more musical numbers in Joker than the sound of music. There are only so many somber, sad musical scenes you can put an audience through before it is old and tired. The acting was great. The story was great. The musical asides backfired badly.
I may need to sit on this one a bit to fully understand it, but my first impression is A Hidden Life is a great story told in a disjointed way, preventing me from connecting with the characters and leaving me confused. Secondly, dialogue could have really helped this film. It frustrates me when characters are asked questions and either they don’t answer or the film cuts away. That happened a lot in this film. This is an unexpected look at relentless hope. While perhaps not uniquely American, I love how this film showcases the resilience that often goes unnoticed in women in America. What a great film!
