We’ve got a mixed bag here. Opus has a lot of talent in front of the camera and a hell of a premise, but it unfortunately never capitalizes on its fantastic concept. I don’t really think that every movie needs to make a point, but Opus is a film that seems designed from the ground up to make a point, but never really gets around to it. The closest it gets is in a late-movie monologue from Malkovich but even that seems…

RPats doing silly voices, Bong absolutely refusing to rein in his weirdo tendencies, Ruffalo and Collette doing the most. What more could you want?

I’m sort of obsessed with this type of big idea, un-subtle, satirical sci-fi and nobody is doing it better than Bong these days. The fact that WB gave him $120 million to make this big, weird, anti-capitalist, absurdist genre movie is wild (and let’s be real, probably won’t happen again). Bong Hive Rise Up.

Pure hi-octane cinema. George Miller is a (mad) genius and I want him to live to be 150 years old so he can keep making masterpieces.

Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy give possibly the best performances of their careers (Hemsworth in particular is having a ball), the world-building is unmatched, and the set pieces are insane without ever feeling derivative of Fury Road.

One thing I love about the Mad Max movies is that each one has its own unique flavor and…

A meat-and-potatoes reset of the Predator franchise that gets the series back to its roots: a big ass alien monster vs a skilled human warrior. That’s all this is; Prey isn't breaking any new ground, but treading familiar areas with a modern touch. Beautifully photographed with intense gore-filled action sequences, and all anchored by a star-making turn from Amber Midthunder. Would love for this to start a trend where we see the Predator battle warriors from across the ages. Predator vs Viking, anyone?
