As an English teacher I often am disappointed by films from my favorite novels, but Life of Pi, the film, actually comes close to evoking the same feelings as does the novel. Visually stunning, thematically rich, and faithful to the intent of the author (I assume), Life of Pi is worth a viewing (after reading the book, of course).

Never Let Me Go 2010
The novel is an absolute favorite, and the movie has its moments, but - at the risk of sounding trite - it didn’t live up to the novel. The theme of the novel has to do with life’s joys, contrasted with fate, yet the movie tends to be overly dark. The beauty of the end of the novel is lost in the film. All that said, the main actors were perfect, just not given a proper chance to impart the novel’s emotional punch.
