The Last Showgirl 2024
Eeeeeeee! I loved this movie a lot. Shelly’s dedication to her art and dreams is inspiring and honorable. Obviously she puts dancing over almost everything else, causing issues in her personal life (I won’t spoil) but she is true to her heart and never gives up what she loves - not until she is forced to. This is a beautiful story about aging and growing; identity and love. It explores the consequences of being faithful to your innermost personal desires and what you have left after your final show. Was it all worth it?

A Complete Unknown 2024
I was NOT in the mood to watch a man date multiple girls at once. Nonetheless, Joan Baez was wonderful, gorgeous, beautiful, angelic…. but I didn’t learn anything novel about Bob Dylan. The movie attempted to portray Dylan’s rise to fame as effortless, but instead seemed manufactured. This made him difficult to relate to. I would have liked if they explored the creative influence he had on his fellow artists (namely Baez and Johnny Cash). The ending was satisfactory; it was impressive to see the evolution of Dylan’s sound and his ability to push the boundaries of the traditional folk genre. Pete Seeger PMO though.
