Soul 2020
I thought going in that this would be my favorite Pixar movie. I love that they weren’t afraid to deal with such weighty content in a kids movie. Ultimately, I found it a bit over-long and meandering, and the emotional moments just didn’t quite land as deeply as I’d hoped. It still looked great and had a nice message—it just didn’t elevate beyond the level of “good Pixar movie” for me.

Such a trippy ride. It’s much more complex and artfully done than Get Out, which is one of my favorites. The story arc is a little inconsistent though, and I’m pretty sure there are some plot holes but can’t be sure because it gets a little convoluted. Definitely one to come back to, as it warrants repeat viewings. Really cool vibe to the film as well with the beach horror, and that one scene with the friends (you know what I’m talking about!) is insane. The HAA visuals are super memorable as well. Solid recommend.

This is everything I look for in a movie. I love stories that are layered and lend themselves to analysis and multiple interpretations, and this one has that in spades. Like everyone, performances are very important to me, and Jack Nicholson's performance here is maybe the most unique I've ever seen.
I saw this once as a teenager and remember being…
