  watched this film in a split screen during an all nighter in my university library amidst the chaos of finals season, and i couldn’t help but be enamored by the charm of the period-esque coloring, soundtrack, and familial banter between tully, mr. hunham, and mary. felt grounding to feel the love of a home beyond home, as a student being away from my hometown 🫶

  a comfort cliché!! mitty’s daydreams are akin to almost anyone who lives out a routine, yearning to have a breakthrough. though the trope is typical and somewhat overdone (man works 9-5 desk job, wants to venture out in the real world), i rejuvenate that sense of place once again, in which fulfillment does not stem from necessarily achieving tangible excellences, but rather, absorbing the simple joys in living.

  all encompassing. its the story of the “mundane” immigrant experience and inter generational healing retold through the lenses of science fiction, philosophical skepticism, and extraordinary art design. the push-and-pull dynamics between evelyn, waymond, and joy were written to be imperfect, unconditional, nuanced, and human. could rewatch eeaao a hundred times more over again, and my eyes will well up just as much as they did when i first watched it.
