On the real though, i think building the entire film up around the final shot was a huge gamble that emotionally paid off in ways I am still trying to understand. The character development, the background, the sometimes painfully drawn out sequences that were necessary to build on igor and ani's dynamic that beautifully crescendo'd into that vulnerable moment they shared in the car.
