I watched this about ten years ago and was unmoved, what an idiot.

This along with Haynes’ Carol are two of the best photographed movies of the 2000s. It's extremely creative and competent in every way, but the abstract concept limits any dramatic impact.

It's an interesting script, with powerful themes of connection and jealousy, interweaved and battling. Editing and music help this thing along. A more classically handsome lead would have helped--the movie hinges on his beauty and charm.

The tabooness charges every scene so full of drama to the point I felt the need to cover my eyes for 90% of the movie. I vigorously guffawed at least 100 times. Powerhouse acting from the three mains. Propulsive sinister score sets the perfect tone for whats to come. Fabulously shot with extensive backlighting and delicate direction full of tiny moments of immense importance.
