That said, its political commentary and rebuke of U.S. Politics is lacking. There is so much possibility for social commentary and it gets so close without saying much at all.
All worth it if only for it's orgiastic cinematography and mise-en-scene.
Whole sale butchery and trash of source material. The perfect example of a book and movie that are two separate entities and someone who reads and completely misunderstands a book. A complete and absolute insult to the name of one of America's greatest living writers.

A true marvel of cinematic storytelling. This is exactly how you use cinematography to tell a story. When characters go through changes so do the type of shots that the characters are seen through. Important roles are characterized through different tones of light that shift with emotional changes. Should have been nominated for an academy award for cinematography, but unfortunately people are more concerned with the director's personal life than the actual value of the work.
