    Mickey 17

    It's been a journey following Bong since first seeing The Host in 2008. I've always felt his Korean films were far more engaging; whether that be tone, comedy, and story - it is understandable though.

    So after Mickey 17, I left feeling the same again - wishing there was more.

    More of the exploration of Mickey's character and his grief, his feeling of worthlessness and undeservingness of happiness. A lot of this was interrupted by side characters and long stories…

    Hong's films have a special quality to them. Something so unique that it's initially hard to put into words. The feeling of melancholy the characters experience, the pain someone feels for the love they aren't receiving in return.

    How you see the similarities in others you have crossed paths with throughout your life. Like how people are in your life as a chapter, a purpose or learning experience to show what it's like to be human.

    It really is hard to compare to Park Chan Wook. He's only evolved as a filmmaker, both in his storytelling and directing.

    Probably the best cinematography in the last couple of years with transitions that are lasting and impactful. And the Directing is practically flawless as well. Some of the shots in this film seem so effortless 'on paper', and I think that's what makes it so great - only a true master can pull these off.
