The Tale of Tsar Saltan 1967
Ptushko’s Fantasy epics have the most sumptuous colors! The special effects were great especially the forced perspective Knight giants. Also the singing squirrel was one of my favorite parts.

Big Wednesday 1978
This truly feels like Milius’ most personal film. It is poetic, heartfelt and you can feel the long reach of its influence in the work of Spielberg, Oliver Stone, and even the Coen Brothers. To call it a Surfer’s American Graffiti would be too reductive but it shares several of its qualities. Basil Poledouris, a long time Milius collaborator, turns in a score that is magnificent.
