This is a truly pervy watch…. covers some VERY strange ideas, and it’s pretty tabu altogether. Lots of feet, children (??), awkwardly sexual adults; then there’s this weird intersection between them all.  Uncomfortable but kind of enthralling.

as a staunch kelly reichardt fan, this felt…. pretty underwhelming. in some ways it was comforting, like you’re visiting family a decade ago— it’s something your aunt might have playing on the tv, filling her cave-like living room in the afternoon. that is to say: it is… just a movie.

the music even felt a bit dull, at least compared to the stuff in her past works. maybe anything feels bland when the standard of perfection is yo la tengo.…

I adored this Lynch gem. It’s been a few months since I’ve seen it, but what I remember most are these dramatic shots of the passing road and the use of white noise/other soothing & troubling frequencies that propel the narrative and alllll the feelings.

Lynch seamlessly depicts the bizarre & executes the unpredictable in this worthy classic. As is true for most of his works, Blue Velvet’s narrative is thick & difficult to navigate— it’s multidimensional, surprising, and weird as fuck. Really, though, the process of trying to make sense of it all was delightful. Lots of primary colors, lots of bluesss, some Juilee Cruise & the young and darling Laura Dern.
