Prophetic and philosophical. Kubrick didn’t write this story, Burgess did in 1962. But Kubrick does a good job of bringing his ideas about this not-so-future society into the visual world. Lots to think about including the age old question of free will, how art is used and where it will go in a society focused on pleasure, and the power of bureaucracy.

The Conformist 1970
A visually gorgeous yet sad story about the desire to belong, to be understood, to conform and of the eventual collapse of a fake life. Bertolucci uses beautiful, colorful scenery and cinematography to move this idea forward, rendering the dialogue almost unnecessary. Lots to take away from this impressive film.
