GENDER IS A PRISON
Pros: Such a beautiful film, Mickaël and Jeanne I would die for you both, shot and edited fantastically.
Cons: The mum can catch these fucking hands, and the last 15 minutes was some prime childhood trauma. Ending is maybe too ambiguous is these horrid transphobic times BUT having complicated feelings on gender isn't entirely a trans experience alone. I read Mickaël as a transgender boy, but I can see room for other interpretations as well.Translated from by

Great premise and more nuance than I was expecting from the main characters, but some of the side characters throw in dialogue that's just so dramatic and one-note that it put me off for the first half of the film. The second half is much better, letting the main actors sit quietly with the situation. Nicholas Hoult and Toni Colette in particular are 10/10
