This gave me the vibes of an MCU movie in a bad way. The tone is all over the place, not knowing whether to commit to the goofy dynamic of the Mickeys or the sincerity of the biocentric and humanitarian issues at hand. I would’ve liked to see these topics covered on a more earnest ground, similar to Joon-Ho’s other features. A rare and unfortunate Bong miss.
This is so chronically 2020 and I adore it for that. It might’ve been a little too on-the-nose three years ago but it’s gonna be looked back upon as a period piece decades from now. Another clever Rian Johnson hit.
I set myself up for disappointment with this one. I was still riding off the high of watching Fury Road for the first time just two days ago so perhaps my expectations were too high going into Furiosa. Still, I expected it to reach or at least come close to being on the same scale of epic as its predecessor but it just hit too many speed bumps on the way for me.

I know De Niro was just joking around during the pre-screening Q&A but I would’ve 100% believed that Donald Trump made this film if I had gone into it without knowing who the director was. There were times during the screening where I had to remind myself that this was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the same guy who made both Godfather films and Apocalypse Now. It’s so jarring seeing Megalopolis sit amongst the rest of his fairly cohesive filmography. …
