  Watching this film, I would never guess it was made on a $500,000 budget. Gareth Edwards shines with excellent direction, gorgeous cinematography, production design, and visual effects. The overarching story is executed well and conveys a sense of fear and sadness. We are not shown total chaos, but rather management of a situation that doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon.   This film was tough to watch because it painted such a plain, accurate picture of depression. The color palate is slightly washed out, offering hints of grey, creating an atmosphere that's palpable. The camara work was plain, showing real shots rather than interesting shots.
