Once again in awe of the 'Wes Anderson colour pallet' in this short. Breaking the fourth wall stylistically, it is cross between story book and theatre play.
"Only the Animals" didn't invent the technique of telling of time and story through intertwined characters that can be found in many of Inarritu films from early 2000s ('21 Grams' or 'Babel'). Set (mostly) in a small town in France, what this six-degrees-of-separation movie does so well is it's use of various character types and the Wild West Internet age, and how they manage to connect us. "Love is giving others what you don't have," the character Armand repeats and so do we, as we see this philosophical theme repeated throughout this movie's scenes.
An unlikable female lead character, as per the likes of Lydia Tár (2022), and her success in the art of manipulation. Brilliant acting from Trine Dyrholm, the movie takes many 360 spins on itself. A movie I am still thinking about, and will be for a while longer.
A poetic wander around London in 1992. Not much has changed in the scenery, but then not much has changed in the city's ethos either.
"He asked me if I found it strange that the largest street festival in Europe should take place in London, the most unsociable and reactionary of cities. I said that I didn't find it strange at all, for only in the most unsociable of cities would there be space for it."
