Who doesn’t want to watch Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender be extremely British, fashionable, and top tier covert spies? This felt like an instant classic for a genre that in my opinion is overdone and rarely well executed without being gimicky. But this brought class/style/subtlety back to a spy movie, all in a tight 90 minutes that gripped you from the very beginning and gave you exactly what you want at the end. Soderbergh’s direction brings this to another level and I really enjoyed the setting/lighting throughout. It gave an intimacy to the movie that just kept you locked in.
One of those films where when it’s over, you just want a little bit more because you enjoyed spending mundane time with these characters. This one hits you in all the squishy parts of your heart, and reminds you how special chosen family can be and how loneliness and grief are things that plague all of us, just in different ways. Peter Dinklage is able to convey so much emotional depth without saying very much and it was a pleasure…
This was a really fun watch! It was a lot sillier than I expected and fell more into the sci fi “camp” category for me verses true drama/action but I found myself really enjoying the oddity of the world and most of all, really enjoying Rob Pat’s performance of Mickey and the duality of characters. Huge kudos to Mark Ruffalo as well - he really is a generational talent who can play any kind of role with ease. Their were a flew plot holes I wish they tied up better at the end but overall I didn’t leave the theater feeling disappointed.
