I'm seeing some comparisons to Tolstoy in the reviews. I can see where that comes from in the sense that this story is a grand, sweeping epic focused on the life and the misfortunes of the protagonist. But where Tolstoy's characters are almost always at war with themselves (or at least, on a journey towards some kind of self realisation), I think that this movie is far more focused on the absurdity of existence - and the futility of choice…

The Apprentice 2024
It's hard to feel positive about a relatively measured character study of an utterly repugnant man. That aside, I feel this film accomplishes very little. The relationship between Trump and Cohn feels underdeveloped, and things jump around quite chaotically. The performances are very good though. Sebastian Stan captures Trump without branching into caricature, and sells the evolution of his personality perfectly. That's a remarkably difficult accomplishment.
