Actor, writer, producer and director.
[Inevitably, my four favourite films will change]
A tough one to rate.
Firstly, an impressive cast including Virginia Madsen, Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, and Viggo Mortenson.
All are fantastic in portraying interesting and engaging characters, especially unhinged Gabriel (Walken) and a deeply unsettling Lucifer (Mortenson).
The pace slows down a touch when two or more of the leads are not on screen at the same time. Together they make the film so much more.
I will certainly watch the sequel.
I'm not a big horror fan, but I do like a good fright once in a while. 'Audition' was highly recommended as a must-see film - friends refused to give me details about the horror content, and insisted I just have to watch it.
For the first hour I was left wondering "Where's the horror?"
There's a lot of setup with a somewhat even pace, but things do eventually kick off in unexpected ways.
One is never really sure which part of the story to trust.
It's definitely one to watch, if only to tick a box.
A highly enjoyable B-movie about the biblical battle between good and evil.
Yes, there is questionable dialogue coupled with over-acting and character decisions that just don't make logical sense. But, these are more issues with the writing and could have easily been resolved during development.
Production values are high despite the budget, and there are certainly a lot of ingenious ideas floating around in a multi-genre soup.
Perhaps that's why we're left not completely satisfied. There's so much to take…
