Pretty good documentary on a topic still relevant to this day. Doesn’t reinvent the wheel but good enough to keep us entertained and angered. A bit surface level unfortunately.

The Watermelon Woman 1996
Pretty good, type of fake documentary that has a strong societal comment and that I can see as being ground breaking for the time. It still is, in some way. Black gay lesbian representation isn’t that big still. It explores a lot of things without feeling the need to go too much in depth, and so everything stays in an aura of mystery, making you think after the film is done.

The Seed of the Sacred Fig 2024
Good portrayal of the actual situation, I believe.
The dad is a nuanced villain, we also pity him. His descent into paranoia and madness is subtle, yet understandable. The three women are perfect. The character progression of all of them is well done.
Only problem is that the first half of the movie, before the weapon disappears, is really long. I get that it’s to show the mom’s character development, but nonetheless it’s scenes that could have maybe be spread out throughout the act, until they live so that the pace of the movie is not too affected.Translated from by -
