  James Baldwin, the man that you are. This whole thing is unintentionally brilliant, with Baldwin's searing intelligence running circles around the filmmakers' whiny insistence on making an apolitical film about one of the boldest voices in American literature.

  Many times I've come across films that aren't very good, but has its heart in the right place - this one, despite being well made, felt like it was made in bad faith.

  The relentless homophobia in the main storyline entirely destroyed for me any amount of heartwarming done by the sweet moments. The whole idea of the village saving the couple and getting them married felt hollow when it was their relentless gaybashing which compelled the main character to…
