To paraphrase someone on Twitter, “I don’t really approve of America and their whole military/imperialism thing, but they kind of went off with Tom Cruise”.
Also - fav moment has got to be Cruise’s spot on Nicholson impression, “He eats breakfast 300 yards away from 4000 Cubans that want to kill him.” MY GOD.
Also surprise cameo from Cuba Gooding who will collaborate with Cruise just 4 years later.

Interesting premise, and avoids a lot of common traps. But still milquetoast ending. I get what they’re going for in someways, glad they avoid the white saviour trope. But still got a lot of unresolved ick.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 2023
First Marvel Movie in years to appeal to the inner child in me. Many set ups from the rest of the franchise paid off excellently.
“The name’s Rocket. Rocket Raccoon” was a great line, specifically because of the set up and payoff. Made me well up. As was the “Coz I’m a freaking Guardian of the Galaxy.”
It was also incredibly overtly political. The fact that the ideal utopia was a suburb, and the racist and genocidal rhetoric from the villain, all so subtle yet good. One of the best MCU movies. Incredibly political, and executed well.
Brilliant villain, brilliant heroes. Thoroughly enjoyed. 4.5/5.
