  Mystical and lyrical, the film hypnotises you into a fairytale of impossible love. Borrowing elements from the silent era where the lack of diegetic sounds allowed you to fill in the gaps, the film becomes a literary exploration on the impossibility of true human connection, cherishing the rare occasions such a thing may occur. Gomes frames simply and rarely moves the camera making his language accessible as if everything should be interpreted and understood. Yet, similar to directors like Buñuel, this simplistic grammar becomes a snake-charmer's flute guiding you into uncharted territory, new narratives and exotic lands.

  Glued together with cinesthesia and instinct, the film is truly and impressively simply a collage of a community, asking nothing of the viewer other than participation. Hale County becomes a diary of the human condition, exploring the small and the everyday.
