so utterly dreary, almost eerie at some points, and still beautiful.. every shot counts and is lit quite gorgeously if i may say. even more gorgeous: gérard philipe, but i digress. it's a simple story, done well, and sometimes that really is more than enough.

ngl i mixed this one up with working girl (1988) but not at all disappointed. this is a good one – the cold banality of the profession shows through, nothing and absolutely nothing is glamorous or romantic. the job is the job: this is corporate down to the water cooler gossip. cherry on top was molly hitting lucy with the "have you ever heard of surplus-value?" right at the end. yay molly!
