A film about a few scores of old religious and idealistic men locked in a room to vote for the next leader of their church shouldn’t nearly be as enthralling as this.
Yet Conclave proves otherwise with its sharp commentary on faith, humanity and virtue aided by its beautiful production design, costumes and cinematography.
Sad, Pathetic, Putrid, Beautiful, Rich, Enthralling.
All of these things exist within the cosm of Queer’s characters and world.
And Luca remains (maybe) one of the only modern masters who so effectively showcases the rawest, most base, facets of the human condition and emotions.
What can only be described as an assault on all 6 senses, in the best, most Lynch-ian way possible. But an assault nonetheless. A film that is to be experienced and not understood.
RIP to one of the masters.
Not just an incredibly enthralling musical but also, a brilliantly directed bit of self-referential, grimly existential and theatrical filmmaking.
