  When do “tongue-in-cheek” and “surreal” become “corny” and “navel-gazing?” About five minutes into this movie! Surrealism is supposed to clear away the limitations of reality to get at deeper truths of our experience. The filmmakers seem to think that surrealism is when random things happen that make no sense, because the whole point this movie seems to be trying to make is that things happen in life for no reason.
