I didn't expect I would even be able to understand this movie going into it, much less find it interesting. It was definitely interesting, sweet, and intelligent. Robert Pattinson was excellent as usual. His voice wasn't nearly as annoying as it seemed in the previews! Films often take the easy way out with characters that have limited intelligence, they're usually kind and simple, and the punchline of every joke. But Mickey was more nuanced than "usual" as his narration explained his thought processes, making us realize that "simple" maybe isn't so simple.
Will definitely rewatch.

I love historical drama that actually show glimpses of what living during these times were like, from societal practices to the actions of dog eat dog survivalists. We're shown the seemingly frivolous actions of women simulating panty hose "seams" by drawing lines up the back of their legs before a night out, in an effort to maintain normalcy. As well as scavengers looting dead bodies while explaining to our young hero that he needn't worry about the bodies "waking up"…

Quietly mindblowing over and over and over. The Little moments, thoughtful phrases, views of the world, pillow talk, and manner of sex . I've seen Bella before, she is somehow inside every woman making her way through the stories of men. Brilliant all around.

There are some movies that speak to you on a personal level, and you don't necessarily know why. You can guess, you can identify with certain parts of the story, you can marvel in the beauty of the score (by Ludivico Einaudi), and the landscape and travel through the human experience of others, but you don't necessarily KNOW or understand why it touched you deeply. This movie did that for me, repeat viewing in order. Frances McDormand is a national treasure.
