Seeing Povitsky on the silver screen is my own fantasy sequence come to life thanks to Drugstore June. This film is just so Esther - I mean, June: the supremely saccharine, perfectly psychotic protagonist, and the literal definition of delulu. There were parts of this story that were perfect, like when solving the seemingly benign break-in puts June in the middle of a high-stakes heist… the burger shop break up monologue… and all of the secret (and not-so-secret) snacking. Immaculate 2024
Say what you will, but I enjoyed Sweeney’s first leading role on the big screen and the silly story that went along with it. Religious horror isn’t always my thing, but this was equal parts gruesome and gimmicky. A few eye rolls in the plot like the background of the priest and when I finally realized why this was called Immaculate. I enjoyed being the only person in my suburban movie theater, eating nachos and drinking a margarita.
