  This film went from One of Them Days to The Substance to Aliens to Night of the Living Dead to Chicken Little to Invasion of the Bucket Snatchers to Armageddon to The Lion King. Talk about range.

  Seriously, this was such a blast. Go support 2D animation and seek this out in theatres!

  Bona 1980

  Bona is everything. He’s just Gardo.

  Something I loved about this film is how it includes the community Bona finds herself in. Children in the foreground, playing in the streets. A group of titos drinking and singing in the background while Bona talks to her neighbor and sews. We so often join Bona in watching the people of her barangay go through their day. The community never felt small in this film. I forgot I was in Los Angeles.

  Ahh yes, one of my favorite on-screen duos: Ayo Edebiri and a notebook.

  NOTE: Literally went “oh yeah, I saw this today too.” 

  I’ll say I did like Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich here, the colors were popping, and there were a few moments that did intrigue me. But the whole film is pretty surface level and it’s very reminiscent of other movies I’ve seen before. I had a fun time but not a memorable one, evidently.
