Beautiful Boy 2018
easily one of the best depictions of substance abuse and how it affects more than the abuser. I loved Nic and his dad’s relationship so much it hurt me. seeing how addiction acted as a manipulator and almost like a third person in their relationship is such an insanely unique way to depict how it can impact relationships.
this movie had its moments that were difficult and triggering but in a way that I felt was productive. it had a perfect ending. I currently cannot express how much I love this movie.

I always find some way to relate a Ghibli movie but this was by far the most I ever felt connected to a character. may be a bold claim, but I think that in so many ways, me and Anna are damn near the exact same person. if I was ever trying to explain how complex of a person I am to somebody, I would probably show them this movie. not forgetting to mention that it is just visually so…
