Look, like any human being, Jackie Chan doesn't get any younger. So it was only a matter of time before all of his burns, electrical shocks, broken bones, and other stunt mishaps caught up to him. Sooner or later we were bound to see him slow down on his death-defying antics.
But not like this.
This just feels awkward and undignified. Sure, a hard-to-follow plot isn't unique to the The Medallion. City Hunter and Wheels on Meals are kind of all…
I don’t write much on Letterboxd anymore. But when I read another review here, claiming The Big Brawl to be “a perfect introduction” to Jackie Chan’s brand of action comedies I heard a voice in my head saying “not on MY watch” (after a doing spit take).
It’s an objectively false statement.
Start with Police Story, Rumble in the Bronx, Armour of God, or Legend of the Drunken Master. Heck, even Rush Hour and Shanghai Knights are better picks since…
As a depiction of a loner's descent into insanity and isolation, this is, objectively, pretty convincing. But man is it revolting. The last 15 minutes are basically One Man One Cup.
I really hope this wasn’t method-acted.
