I enjoyed this one but not as much as I anticipated. My expectations were too high I think!
A lesson on expectations, which is also one thing this movie wrestles with: expecting loved ones or members of a tour group to express pain, grief, suffering, love in a certain way that is personally aligned, and how hard — but cathartic and necessary — it is to let go of that.

Writing this a day after seeing it — The costuming and fantastical elements and Cynthia Erivo’s voice have stuck with me. But what will especially stick with me is the memory of the day!
I saw this film with my mom, who hasn’t seen the stage production of Wicked. (I saw it for the first time earlier this year!) The experience reminded me of going to matinees with her as a kid, only instead of sharing popcorn and icees, we snuck in pastries we grabbed from a holiday market at SA museum of art. Such a joy!!
