It took a little while to settle in to the first person marrative and the camera work but was it ever worth the effort. Great performances and a powerful film.

Perfect Days 2023
Simply brilliant, a meditation on life and how to live it. Koji Yakusho is so good as Hirayama, we see the world through his observation of all the small things that happen in his days and he sees humour in pretty much everything - his face is incredibly expressive. The rhythm of his days is hypnotic, I could have watched for another hour. You find yourself wondering what music tape he will pick every morning going to work. His weekdays and days off are filled with simple pleasures - his books, music (great soundtrack), trips to the bookshop, the camera shop and his bicycle. Bliss.

Civil War 2024
Mmmm. Tough one to review. Tedious naval gazing journalists in the middle of a war - what do you mean its not about them?? Kirsten Dunst (a good actress) plays the battle scared war photographer (with all the usual cliches) and Cailee Spaeny plays the young, ambitious (how novel) wannnabe war photographer, so far so ho hum. And yet in spite of all that it was entertaining and worth a look. One star for the premise - a civil war…
