Not sure it’s worth any actual rating, besides THE Emma Thompson once again being marvellous, and my mum sharing my laughs. For these two, even five stars are not enough.
At the end of the day, it’s the very early neuroses and pathologies that smell familiar, that we seek for and to which we go back to in times of need. The contact with the cherished and long lost object is secured through the psyche’s unconscious investment on anything associated to it; with an unresolved loss and an ongoing mourning process, one will inevitably seek for the arousal of such investment, wherever it might come from.
There’s no true judgement for one’s refuge, it turns out. It all makes sense, always.
Was there anything else besides some eye shower of good looking bodies, a bucket of fake sweat, some annoyingly loud music meant to keep the tension going even when there was no tension whatsoever, and literally no depth at all?
A friendship that became shit because of a love drama so superficial that it hurt.
And of course, slow motion, some Eros Ramazzotti-like soundtrack out of the blue, and paper bags flying over Zendaya’s head.
I mean, it didn’t even turn me on. Luca, what the fuck?
This film had me from the moment I saw my favourite Adrien Brody behind that sequence of some very unusual opening titles in the trailer. Without knowing the film’s length - which, to be fair, is something I did not so much enjoy, and for which we might have needed a quick run for some emergency popcorn - I went to the cinema with great expectations.
