I'm not sure Armie Hammer and Lily James were the right choices for the leading roles - James especially failed to compell me in the more dramatic scenes. Her character often felt dumb rather than naive. On the other hand, it seemed like Armie Hammer couldn't decide whether he was a Byronic love interest or the boy next door in a romcom.
That being said, Kristin Scott Thomas's Mrs. Danvers was easily the strongest character - she felt just menacing…
