While it does lose a few points for some of the clunky, heavy-handed needle drops, overall the Fear Street trilogy is a well-crafted love letter to 90s horror in general, and author R.L. Stine's Fear Street books in particular. I devoured every Fear Street book I could get my hands on all throughout middle and high school, and though no particular plots match (as writer/director Leigh Janiak was not directly adapting any one particular story in the Fear Street universe), the essence of the series is very obviously kept intact.
